Financial Services
At financial services firms such as investment banks, hedge funds, and financial security organizations, data is often highly confidential in nature, and extremely well-regulated by both the industry and the federal government. External regulations like SOX are in place, as are internal safeguards like “Ethical Walls,” which are organized to keep disparate internal departments (Research and Trading, for instance) from being allowed to access each other’s resources across repositories that include Exchange, SharePoint, Public Folders, the file system, and more.
In addition, IT administrators at many large financial organizations are tasked with managing environments spread across the globe, and are relied upon to ensure that users have constant access to the data they need, whether via in-office desktops, remote access, or mobile devices. Often, delays or downtime can result in the loss of millions of dollars, and vulnerabilities in systems can lead to devastating external attacks from individuals targeting financial organizations as a means of insider trading.
